#1 Dad

Father's Day show & tell

Isn't Show & Tell the best? I think so. Except for that one time in 3rd grade when I brought in my new teddy bear and its head fell off and rolled across the floor in the middle of my showing and telling. True story. But you know what? My dad sewed his head back on.

That's Mark Lawler for you: always fixing things with helpful hands, a willing heart, and a smile on his face. He's upbeat, goofy, goes out of his way to learn the waitress' name, tells the same jokes time and again ("If we don't see you in the future, we'll see you in the pasture!"), and jumps at any chance to show off his 360 spin move on the dance floor — or even just in our own kitchen.

Determined, devoted, and utterly selfless, my brother and I have been privileged to to grow up with such a father figure. The times he raises his voice are few and far between. And when he does, we know we deserve it — and he knows to follow up with a reminder that he loves us, shortcomings and all.

On this Father's Day, I'm celebrating and giving thanks for my dad — for all that he is, all that he's taught me, and all of the love that he's given me. I hope he knows just how mutual the love is. And now, sappy Telling aside, let's get on with the Show. Here are some of my favorite Mark Lawler moments caught on camera:
