"Eat, Papa, eat!"
Let's face it: We're busy. We're scrambling at work so we can afford to take a couple days off around the holidays. We're last-minute shopping and wrapping and baking. We're celebrating with family and making time for fun with friends who are in from out-of-town. We're suffering the two-day flu and still hacking up a lung (guilty!). Yes, fitting in Christmas movies is getting increasingly difficult. That's when we turn to shorts like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
The premise: You know the song.
The most memorable characters: Hermey, the elf that wants to be a dentist & Yukon Cornelius, the prospector.
The quotes worth remembering: "Bumbles bounce!" & "Eat, Papa, eat!"
The fun fact: Many of the design elements in this movie - Santa's workshop, the elf outfits, the animals - inspired the styling in another favorite North Pole movie: Elf.
The burning question: On the Island of Misfit Toys, what's wrong with Dolly? She looks perfectly cute and doll-like! A quick google sheds some light - her issues are psychological. In 2007, the show's producer explained that Dolly is suffering depression from feeling unloved. So there you have it. Kids' shows dealing with the tough stuff at Christmastime.
