Thanksgiving 2014

A recap

Thanksgiving weekend: An endless parade of baking, dishes, cooking, dishes, Christmas decorations, and dishes. I love it, but I wouldn't call it much of a weekend. On Sunday night I actually said "Oof, I need a weekend." Such is life, and such are the holidays.

For starters, I made two desserts for Thanksgiving dinner: a pumpkin cake and a pecan pie.

Then, my mom and I made the rest of the dinner food — and burned the stuffing. So half-hour before everyone arrived, we had to whip up a last-minute vat of stuffing. (Classic holiday crazy, amiright?)

Pippin was too cute and helped all day. And by "helped" I mean stood in the kitchen, sweetly and expectantly waiting for something to hit the floor. We really couldn't ask for a better or more adorable sous-chef/floor-cleaner-upper.

The next day, I made pumpkin muffins with some leftover canned pumpkin. There always seems to be leftover canned pumpkin — why is that? (Recipe to come.)

Then it was Christmas decoration time for what felt like the entire remainder of the weekend. My brother is a Christmas Village master.

Right now, I can't wait to just be home and enjoy the ambiance and watch more Christmas movies. I also can't wait to eat anything that isn't turkey, pumpkin, stuffing, etc. It's amazing how delicious it all is but how, after five days straight of leftovers, you're kind of over it. Give me curry, give me carbonara — anything! Next year, we really should plan taco night for the Monday after Thanksgiving.
