Jack's Cafe

A quaint lunch in Waukesha? It does exist!

Lunching in Waukesha is often uninspiring. If you don't want fast food, a strip mall, or to journey into the black hole that is Waukesha's downtown, then thank your lucky stars for Jack's Cafe. Located on Bluemound Road, a bit west of Sam's Club and the Marcus Majestic, you'll find a rustic collection of farm-like buildings - Jack's is located in what actually used to be a pig barn!

The place has low, wood-beamed ceilings and stone walls. A potbelly stove sits in the corner of the one-room restaurant, giving off a cozy glow. Not unlike Von Trier, this is the kind of place that thrives at Christmastime — except Jack's specializes in simple, scrumptious sandwiches and soups rather than warm drinks. Oh, but they do have one warm drink that I'm rather obsessed with: their chai latte is the best thing ever. As for the eats, I usually go for the tuna salad sandwich and my mom enjoys the veggie deluxe. The salads are always fresh and yummy, too. The soups change daily.

Also note: If you're in a hurry, Jack's isn't the place for you. This is the definition of slow food, especially in the summertime. Though I do think my most recent stop there might have been a bit faster than usual... Then again, when you're chatting and enjoying the company you're with, it's easy to lose track of time. This charming Waukesha oasis really is the perfect place to lunch with friends and family in need of some quality time spent over a homey meal — especially around the holidays!

Jack's is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00-3:00.
